About Me:

Hi. I am Alex DJ. I was Born in Colombia. I came to the United States When I was 15 years old.
I received a BS degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Spanish Language and Culture. After that I took plenty of modern dance and jazz courses. During the Spanish culture courses I started to organize presentations about latin culture and about the music and that is wehre I began to organize cultural events.  I put together presentations about Colombia, Spain, Cuba, Puerto rico,Argentina and many other latin countries. I would bring dancers, decorations, food. Manytimes I performed a dance or a play. I organized events and put people together.   The events would come out very nice.  I earned high grades in my Culture classes. Many years later I realized how helpful to my DJ Service was for me to be involved in those classes. It gave me good training in organizing events just like a DJ must kow how to do.

Weddings and Parties

I fell very confident about runnig a wedding or any party. I am used to being in fron of my Students at the high schoolI teach, Huntington Park High School, California.  In addition I teach Math and Geomerty which take basic logic. I asure you that you are getting a sound person who can communicate to your guests and can respect the choices made to run your party.

Advice for contracting a DJ / Entertainment Service

Frequently asked Question:

What are the pro/cons of using a large dee-jay service versus an owner operated service?

Larger DJ services generally have better marketing, a bigger name, and
more employees than a single-system operator. Most operate on the
principle of volume--that is, they load up on events per weekend.  In
other words, a multi-system company may book more than one wedding per
day, and then send out their systems to each gig.  Some companies overbook
on certain dates, hoping that one of the clients will back out the last
minute.  If the client does not back out, the company then subcontracts
out.  Usually the client does not meet the DJ beforehand, or does not have
a choice in selecting a DJ.

Owner operated services generally operate on the principle of quality.
These companies usually take one event per day, but focus all their
attention and energy into making that event spectacular and memorable.
You will usually find better customer service from single-system
service.  And the client usually deals directly with the DJ, thus
directly giving the DJ an idea of what the bride & groom are looking for.
However, these companies may not have an established "name" compared to a
multi-system company.

My roots in salsa

My roots in salsa are quite strong. My father was the owner of a jewlery factory in colombia. My father and his employees always listened to popular music, the type of music made for the crowds, for the average person. I remember the year that the song "El Preso" by Fruko became popular. It was played non stop for years. That is one of those songs that became an anthem for many.  In Colombia middle class families rarely listen to salsa or tropical music. They probably listen to it when they go to a "dance party" once in a while.  There are songs that make fun of middle class colombians on how they look so funny and unanimate when they dance.
In the ohter hand I was around this music all day long.  In addition my mother loved performing and dancing,  when international travelers would come to buy jewlry they would spend a weekend at our house. This was party time.Lots of music dancing story telling a jokes. My mother is great at all of the above. I thak her so much for her happiness and love for life.  Just this year (2003) she performed at the University for one of my former Spanish class professors.  She danced La Pollera Colora and Also a fast paced Puya (similar to merengue) For mothers day she recited poems and danced again at the Club I DJ friday nights. I love my mom!!

My skill of mixing and selecting music comes from within. It comes from my mothers side. I am so amazed at how my mom enjoyed perfoming and dancing so much.
